Ladies Only Poker Final Tonight at SKYCITY Adelaide

One of Australia's "queens" of poker, Sarah Bilney (www.aussiesarah.com), is confirmed to take on Adelaide's best at SKYCITY's Ladies' Only poker tournament finals to be held tonight, Monday 12 November.

Boasting a total prize pool of around $30,000, the tournament gets underway at 7pm in SKYCITY's poker zone.

Sarah, the Adelaide born mother of one, says she started to play poker after meeting her husband Michael, a bookmaker and long-time poker player from Louisiana. He intrigued her with a game called Hold'em, which she'd never heard of, and after plucking up some courage to play in her first 'ring' game, Sarah hasn't looked back.

While the world of poker internationally is dominated by males, Sarah insists females shouldn't feel intimated. To the contrary, she says that "these barriers haven't stopped women from competing at the highest levels in poker, and having considerable success".

Women participating in poker continues to be a growing craze with many of Hollywood's elite ladies (including Mena Suvari, Anne Heche, Mimi Rogers, Ricki Lake and Elizabeth Shannon) getting involved in poker tournaments around the world.

"As the poker craze continues to sweep the globe, the number of females playing the game is increasing" SKYCITY Entertainment Group General Manager Marketing Operations, Tamsyn Alley, said.

"Traditionally, poker has been seen as a male-dominated sport, which can be intimidating for women."

"Ladies Only Poker gives women the opportunity to share a fun night out with the girls, at the same time enabling them to experience competitive poker."

SKYCITY Adelaide's Poker Zone is the only South Australian venue where poker can be played legally using cash.

Places for tonight's tournament are still available though bookings are essential, and can be made via entry payment at the Action Station on the Ground Floor.

Every Monday, SKYCITY Adelaide features free learn-to-play Texas Hold'em poker sessions for both men and women.

These run from 6:00pm -6:45pm in Poker Zone.

Just as Ladies Only Poker finals draw near, later this week is also the SKYCITY Adelaide Holdem tournament finals featuring Joe Hachem himself!

Please note that entry to SKYCITY Adelaide is limited to persons aged 18+ years.
