Titanic 3D: Ghosts Of The Abyss Features Exclusively On The Megascreen (former IMAX screen)
The Megascreen (at Village SKYCITY Cinemas Queen St - formerly IMAX) will treat Auckland movie goers to an exclusive three-dimensional journey which chronicles Academy Award winning director James Cameron?s return to the legendary wreck of the Titanic.
Called “Titanic 3D: Ghosts of the Abyss,” the landmark documentary will screen exclusively at the Megascreen on Queen Street from this Thursday 24 March 2005.
With a team of the world?s foremost historic and marine experts, along with colleague Bill Paxton, Cameron embarks on an unscripted adventure back to the final grave where almost 1500 people lost their lives almost a century ago.
Using state-of-the-art technology developed expressly for the expedition, Cameron and his crew are able to explore virtually all of the wreckage - inside and out - as never seen before.
Made especially for theatres fitted out for 35mm 3-D screenings (theatres using the most technologically advanced 3D cinematography), Cameron and his team bring to audiences sights not seen since the sinking occurred 90 years ago. The documentary also explores why the landmark vessel continues to intrigue and fascinate the public the world over.
Promising to be a rare treat for New Zealand audiences, the film is currently enjoying unsurpassed box office success in Sydney and Melbourne, where it has achieved the highest gross ticket sale takings at each location for a single film.
Testimony to the ongoing public interest in the Titanic and the incredible vision of James Cameron, this film has been made under some of the most challenging circumstances ever confronted by a team of filmmakers.
Titanic 3D:Ghosts of the Abyss (showing only at the Megascreen Queen Street, from Thursday 24 March 2005) provides an unprecedented motion picture experience that transports audiences to the wreck of the legendary ship and allows them to experience the wreckage and its ghosts in a virtual reality like no other.
What the film critics have said:
- "Haunting and Beautiful" NY Times
- "The footage of the old ship, whose ghostly grandeur is still apparent despite nearly 90 years of existence underwater, speak volumes" Hollywood Reporter
- "The result is often spellbinding, and to mention some of the sights we see is to praise the film's ambition." Chicago Sunday Times
