Self-barring
We operate a self-barring program for customers who believe they may have a gambling problem. Self-barring is a voluntary action customers can take by excluding themselves from entering SKYCITY Adelaide.
Customers will be encouraged to meet with a trained gambling counsellor and SKYCITY can make an appointment on their behalf.
Self-barring is an indefinite barring with a minimum period of 12 months and there are conditions that must be met before customers may re-enter the casino.
How long does a self- barring last?
SKYCITY encourages self-barred customers to seek help from qualified gambling and financial counselling services. Our staff can help with this process. A self-barred customer may only apply to rescind the barring after the minimum 12 month period has elapsed.
The person must attend counselling with a qualified gambling counsellor and provide a letter of support from the Counsellor to a Host Responsibility Co-ordinator. The person must complete an application to rescind the barring in person at SKYCITY's Security offices.
The application will be reviewed by the Host Responsibility Co-ordinator team to ensure there is no continuing risk to the person, at which time the application may be accepted.
Third-party barring
Third party barring is an action SKYCITY can take if someone else (i.e. a family member, a friend, GP or even a SKYCITY staff member) believes that a person's gambling has become a problem and is causing harm and that person has refused self-barring.
Under third-party barring, if a SKYCITY Adelaide Host Responsibility Co-ordinator is convinced that the third party's concern is genuine and justified, then SKYCITY will make recommendations to the Liquor and Gaming Commissioner. The Liquor and Gambling Commissioner will review the case and may bar the person from the casino to help get their gambling under control.
What happens if barring is breached?
Barred customers cannot enter any licensed gaming area. They are, however, allowed into SKYCITY's North Restaurant only, entering only from the Station Road entrance.
SKYCITY Adelaide takes barring very seriously. If someone breaches their barring, they will be asked to leave the casino and their breach will be documented. If further breaches occur, police will be called and barred customers may face prosecution and fines of up to $2500.
