Host Responsibility

What we do about Problem Gambling

With gaming being a core component of SKYCITY Adelaide, we are aware that our business has the potential to contribute to negative social impacts in relation to both problem gambling and excessive alcohol consumption. SKYCITY is committed to doing its part to help combat problem gambling.

We want people to have fun at SKYCITY, and we want those who aren't to receive the help they need. Along with our dedicated team of Host Responsibility Coordinators, SKYCITY Adelaide has in place many host responsibility measures.

Staff Training

At SKYCITY, it is compulsory for all of our people to receive training on host responsibility - from senior management to dealers, cleaners, waiters and admin staff. Our training ranges from an introductory level for back-of-house staff to specialist advanced training for senior front-of-house staff, security and management.

Our training modules are developed very carefully to take a variety of issues into account, such as cultural, gender and social differences, ethnicity, age and those requiring special attention.

We also spend time consulting with leading probem gambling treatment providers such as Break Even Services to ensure we incorporate their expertise and knowledge in our training modules.

Barring

We recognise that a small percentage of people are at risk of developing gambling problems and whether the customer identifies a problem themselves, or a third party (i.e. family member), identifies a problem, SKYCITY has a program in place to help.

Unattended Children

SKYCITY Adelaide does not tolerate children to be left unattended on any part of its property and regard all incidents of this nature extremely seriously.

  • Staff members are required to report to Security any incident where it is apparent that a child has been left unattended by their guardian or caregiver.
  • Security Officers and Host Responsibility Coordinators will intervene and take all practicable steps to locate an adult responsible for an unattended child, whilst ensuring the welfare of any unattended children. In every case where negligence is suspected our immediate action upon locating children is to contact police and elevate the incident to a police matter. The guardian or parent is immediately barred from the SKYCITY Adelaide property.
  • Security Officers regularly patrol the SKYCITY Adelaide environment to watch for any unattended children who may have been left in parked vehicles.

Responsible Marketing & Advertising policy

SKYCITY Adelaide is a responsible gaming operator, which does not deceive or mislead people. We comply with the national Advertising Standards Authority and its regulatory authority guidelines for responsible marketing and advertising of its facilities, which include:

Any customers detected loan-sharking or begging will be required to leave SKYCITY Adelaide. In some instances, SKYCITY Adelaide may also bar the customer from the premises.

Host Responsibility Management

To manage these policies and ensure continual review and enhancement of harm minimisation initiatives, a Responsible Host department has been established within the SKYCITY Entertainment Group, led by a Senior Group General Manager and based at the company's head office in New Zealand.

At SKYCITY Adelaide, we have a full-time Host Responsibility Manager who, in conjunction with the department, is responsible for managing the Early Intervention and problem gambling and alcohol management issues.
