SKYCITY Casino is under going a major refurbishment which began in September 2006. This is the first complete refurbishment of the gaming floor since SKYCITY opened in 1996. In December a modern and elegant bar, Aces Bar opened (formally Canoe Bar) as well as the revamped Deli and Noodle Bar.
The new Baccarat Room and Bar is also now open. The room houses eight baccarat tables as well as a bar with a full range of refreshments from Chinese tea and espresso to alcoholic beverages. The room also has access to a smokers deck overlooking Federal Street. The Baccarat room is located next to the all new Main Cashier which opened in March.
Construction in the Stage 3 area next to the Deli and Noodle Bar, the Stage 4 area which includes the newly refurbished toilets at the northern end, and Stage 5 area, on the eastern side of the main entrance, have also all been completed. Construction in the Stage 6 area on the eastern side of the main casino entry will be completed on Friday 17 August. The new area will be progressively opened for play from Monday afternoon and will be completed by Wednesday 22 August.
A temporary entrance will be in use from Monday 13 August and throughout Stage 7.
So what next?
Full hoardings will be put in place for the duration of Stage 7 (in front of the main entrance), which is currently scheduled to run for three weeks from Monday 20 August to Friday 7 September.
43 gaming machines and the car will be removed. The Win this Car jackpot will be temporarily set up in the new Stage 6 area, but the car will remain off the gaming floor until Stage 7 has been completed.
There will be signage placed on hoardings and Refurbishment Hosts to help you with relocations of your favourite gaming machines.
