Burns Treatment Campaign
Research has shown that 70 per cent of children admitted to Middlemore Hospital for burns do not receive adequate first aid treatment in the first instance.
The "Cold Water" radio advertisement, aimed at raising awareness of the appropriate treatment for burns, received an Outstanding Radio Creative Award (ORCA) from the Radio Bureau.
The campaign included press and television advertising as well as the distribution of 30,000 fridge magnets to South Auckland schools and an interactive billboard that showered people with cold water if they stood beneath it.
In 2002 SKYCITY also hosted a charity art auction with funds raised donated to the Kidz First Burns Unit.
Burns Prevention Campaign
This campaign ran in two parts, in December 2000 and February 2001. Television, press and billboards around Auckland city and South Auckland, including a site located at Middlemore Hospital, carried the burns prevention message uniquely presented from a child's perspective.
The advertising featured a series of dangerous household objects viewed from a child's perspective. For instance a kettle cord became a giant mouse-tail, and a pot of boiling water became a missile-firing tank. These objects can be overwhelmingly tempting for children to play with resulting in serious burns to young skin.
Keeping Children Smiling
From 2004, SKYCITY continues its support of South Auckland children through the promotion of dental health for pre-schoolers.
