A Typical Sky Tower Tour
During your visit a trained Sky Tower Education Guide will be on hand to escort your class around Sky Tower, assist you and answer any questions you or your students may have. We are also able to tailor these tours to a specific topic or to fit your schedule.
Arrival
You will be met by your Education Guide in the main foyer of SKYCITY. They will lead your group down the escalator to the base of Sky Tower.
Audio-visual Show
Your class will be shown to the viewing area for an audio-visual show about Auckland and Sky Tower. The show lasts approximately 15 minutes. (During this time, the teacher will be shown to the ticket desk to process payment, and can discuss the tour with the Education Guide).
Welcome and introduction to Sky Tower
Your class will be welcomed, and given a brief talk about Sky Tower. Ground rules for the visit will also be covered here.
The Lifts
Your class will then be escorted into the elevators and transported up to the Main Observation level (186 metres high). Each elevator can hold approximately 20 people.
Acclimatisation
Your class will be given approximately 5-10 minutes free time on the Main Observation level to explore and get used to being up high.
Refuge Levels
Your class may then be taken to the fireproof refuge levels. These are safe, fireproof rooms where Sky Tower visitors can be evacuated to in case of emergency. They are also a quiet place where your students can ask the Education Guide questions.
(Subject to availability)
Return to Main Observation Level
The Education Guide will then escort your class back to the Main Observation level to complete their activities.
This first half of the visit takes approximately 45 minutes. Your group then has up to another 45 minutes to complete activities or worksheets on the Main Observation levels. An Education Guide or Tower Host will be available to answer questions during this time. We recommend that you allow approximately 1½ hours for your visit.
Model
An amazing Sky Tower scale cardboard model is provided on arrival at Sky Tower. Great fun for a class project upon return to the classroom!
Supervision
Sky Tower recommends a supervision ratio of one adult (teacher/helper) to every six students. For the most effective class size, we recommend that groups comprise 60 people or less. We request that your students wear labels with their school and name on.
Teacher Familiarisation
Teacher pre-visits are recommended (free of charge). Please contact the Sky Tower Education Co-ordinator to arrange a time to visit and discuss your tour.
