How long have you been in the job?
Three months. However, before I was a Security Officer I worked as a Sky Tower Host, which involved a range of different customer service jobs under one title.
How are these two jobs (Security Officer and Sky Towers Host) different to each other?
Security is more to do with the gaming side of SKYCITY, whereas a Tower Host is specifically located in the Sky Tower.
How are these two jobs (Security Officer and Sky Towers Host) similar to each other?
The customer service side is similar, helping the guests, being knowledgeable and always being friendly.
What do you like most about your job?
Having four days off! (Security officers work four days on, two day shifts then two night shifts, and then have four days off). I also like my fellow team mates - we are like a big family.
What are some of the problems or difficulties you face in your job?
Angry or violent customers, working 12-hour shifts and trying to stay awake on night shifts.

Who are the other people within SKYCITY that you have to cooperate with in order to do your job?
Everyone - we ensure everyone's safety and need them as our eyes and ears to help us. The Security team has to work together to back each other up.
How does working with these people enable you to do your job better?
Other people help us to do our job by assisting with information or problems and problem guests and the interaction with other staff helps to make a friendly environment.
Please provide an overview of a 'day in the life' of a Security Officer?
5.00am - Wake up, get ready for work
6.00am - Arrive at work, get changed and meet up with the team
6.45am - Briefing in staff room - daily notices and incident reports. Everyone has to contribute something
7.00am - On the floor, you could be partrolling one of five jobs:
Casino - escorting cash handlers, fire checks, checking ID's at entry points, looking for thieves or trespassed patrons
Car park - Under cover operations in car park, checking mainly for people breaking in or trying to steal cars, dealing with people who have lost car park tickets and similar things.
Sky Tower - Cash escorts, key tasks, escort contractors and make sure they keep fire exits clear, make sure everyone is safe, ensure no patrons are using fire exits.
Fire Warden - We will be stationed in a designated area of SKYCITY and we will stay there in case of a fire.
Medics - Attend any medical situation that occurs and if necessary call an ambulance.
