Job Profile
How long have you been in the job?
Two years.
What do you like most about your job?
Being able to interact with customers and provide good customer service.
What are some of the problems or difficulties you face in your job?
The language barrier with some guests can make communication difficult sometimes.
Who are the people within SKYCITY that you need to cooperate with in order to do your job?
The team on the shift has to work together; we have about 10 people at one time, so when you all work together, the shift runs smoothly.
We also coordinate with people in the security department if there is an emergency, for example, if a customer experiences a medical condition such as a heart attack or diabetic collapse, we let them know and they coordinate the medical assistance.
We also work with people from the Property Services department to make sure all things are running correctly and let them know if things like the interactive computers breakdown.
How does working with these people enable you to do your job better?
Without a team of people it would be difficult to deliver good customer service. Security and property services have particular jobs that they are experts in and we need that expertise in some situations.
Please provide an overview of 'a day in the life' of a Sky Tower Host.
We start here at 8am, with a briefing from the Duty Manager about any incidents that may have happened in the tower, such as technical difficulties, or any up coming events such as, cruise ship groups, or VIP's.
Sky Tower opens to the public at 8.30am and we have various tasks to do throughout the day, from controlling entry tickets to standing on the Main Observation level (at 186m) and directing guests to their next destination and answering questions.
The tower team has 11 rotations throughout the day, so everyone does a variety of jobs and there is no time to get bored!
