Arrival
The imagery of the sculpture is that of a boat or vessel containing precious objects and its arrival at this place. The sculpture speaks of the history and future of this hotel site.
The boat is of hollow timber construction using Canadian cedar. The surfaces of the boat and stand are finished with chainsaw and chisel to enhance the sense that these elements are rough-hewn.
The objects in the boat are made from brass mesh and rod, anodised aluminium sheet, pine, copper rod and stone aggregate. The boat is finished in gold leaf.
