The art deco-ish theme of the lounge with its Egyptian pillars and geometric veneers led me to consider a similarly geometric design.
Researching the art and design of the period I came across a Kandinsky calendar I'd picked up somewhere, and by way of playing with the idea I cut up several of the reproductions, isolating the circular motifs (thinking of gaming chips I suspect) in three or four of the more severely geometric of Kandinsky's paintings.
I arranged the circles and dots in a scaled down model of the frieze's extended format and then linked them with a continuous background of dark browns animated with stippled variations of the base colour.
