Dick Frizzell remembers the process:
"The idea was the whole of Auckland as seen from the top of the Sky Tower ... an idea that boggled my mind at first and I tried to wriggle out of it - but Hamish (Keith) conned me into it somehow and then I came up with that sort of diagrammatic, or stylised treatment; a vaguely retro style which I was making abstract works out of at the time.
"Large washes of soft colour with the tertiary details drawn in over with oil sticks captured the sense of Auckland without actually illustrating it, which would've killed me."
