BORN: AUCKLAND IN 1964. GRADUATED WITH A BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS IN PRINTMAKING FROM ELAM SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS AT AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY IN 1987. EXHIBITED EXTENSIVELY THROUGHOUT NEW ZEALAND, AND ALSO IN AUSTRALIA, JAPAN, USA, EUROPE AND CHILE. DOLEZEL HAS WON 15 MAJOR ART AWARDS INCLUDING THE "ROYAL OVERSEAS LEAGUE OVERSEAS ART AWARD" IN LONDON.
The City Dreaming
Jenny Dolezel explores the theatre of life, depicting surrealist mindscapes and interior dreamscapes to conjure a unique arena of "Night".
SKYCITY's triptych fragments the many faces of night, both literal and metaphoric. Exhibiting as three interconnected tableaux of narrative, the central panel becomes pivotal as it explores a utopian vision of the Sky Tower personified as Ring Master conducting the theatre of characters.
The other two panels extend this theatre from its slumbered illusion to the reality of the dream. The interplay between illusion and reality is explored both structurally and psychologically creating another world existing between perception and knowing.
