Known to Maori as Te Reinga Wairua — the leaping off place of the spirits, it is here the souls of the dead take their last look back to the material world on their journey to the great mythic homeland of Hawaiki.
There is something grand and theatrical about this place; the meeting of the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The unrelenting wind, the excoriated hills. This is a dramatic ending of the land.
