Our trustees have backgrounds in local government, social services, publishing, Maori affairs, business and tourism and are all Waikato proud.


MARGARET EVANS: CHAIRPERSON

MARGARET EVANS MSocSc (Hons), DPP (Distinction) is one of New Zealand's sustainability pioneers — promoting social and environmental well-being along with economic prosperity. Mayor of Hamilton for three terms (1989-98), she has held numerous positions in the local government sector at local, national, and international level.

In 1995 she was awarded a CBE for services to local government and the community.

Currently, she chairs Te Araroa Waikato Trust (the Long Pathway) and Parentline Trust (child advocacy), and is a former member of the WEL Energy Trust.

A former global executive member of ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives), the world body promoting local action for sustainable communities, she is now on the board of the Waikato Sustainable Business Network. Her involvement with the SKYCITY Hamilton Community Trust provides a further opportunity for enhancing the well-being of the Waikato community.

JOHN GALLAGHER: TRUSTEE

JOHN GALLAGHER CNZM, C.St.J, JP. John was born in Ngaruawahia and has lived in Hamilton most of his life. Educated at Hamilton Technical College he became a Qualified Fitter & Turner and worked with his brother for over thirty years to build the Family business, Gallagher Group Limited, into an international organisation with distribution networks in more than 130 countries. The Gallagher Group specialises in Animal Management Solutions, Access Control Systems and Perimeter Security Systems.

John was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Waikato in 2008 and an Honorary Fellowship from the Waikato Institute of Technology in 2007.

John is also a Director/Trustee of a number of family trusts and businesses.

John served as a Hamilton City Councillor for twelve years from 1986-1998, with two of these years as Deputy Mayor, and Chancellor of The University of Waikato from 2003-2006. As well as maintaining a Directorship in the Family business John is actively involved in many Waikato Community Groups with a commitment to make the Hamilton and wider Waikato Community a richer, vibrant and more interesting place in which to live and work. Many organisations benefit greatly from his ongoing philanthropic and mentoring support. John is married to Glenice, with two adult children and is the proud grandfather of Joshua.

JACK NINNES: TRUSTEE

JACK NINNES is presently Business Development Manager at WEL Networks, the Waikato based and community owned electrical lines company. Jack has over 36 years experience in the electrical industry specializing in electrical efficiency and utilization and presently manages the company's major customers and new growth opportunities. Jack also manages the WEL Energy Trust's energy efficiency projects. 

Jack is Chairman of the Employers and Manufacturers Association, Waikato Branch.  Jack was Chairman of Tourism Waikato prior to its closure.

Jack's interests include competition sailing and jet skiing of which he is a member of the Hamilton Yacht Club and Hamilton Jet Sport Association.

Jack looks forward to serving the Trust as it can provide real value back to struggling organizations that have the opportunity to create economic wealth, tourism opportunities and employment to the region.

GARY DAWSON: TRUSTEE

GARY DAWSON has a strong involvement in Waikato rugby and is currently the CEO for the Chiefs.

Recently Gary has also been appointed the CEO of the A1GP event in Taupo. This role involves overseeing the management and marketing of the Kiwi round of the World Cup of Motorsport.

Throughout Gary’s extensive career in sports administration, he has been involved in many local and wider community sports groups

BRIDGETTE O'SULLIVAN: TRUSTEE

BRIDGETTE O'SULLIVAN is a popular commentator and MC for fashion shows and events, and has proved to be a very distinguished Ambassador for the Ellerslie Race Course.

In addition to being a mother of two, Bridgette is also involved in a wide range of community organisations and charity events.

In 2006 Bridgette and her husband, retired NZ jockey Lance O’Sullivan, won the popular TV2 show Celebrity Treasure Island Couples at War. Bridgette has also presented on Waikato’s regional lifestyle television show Everyday and is currently hosting the TV3 racing programmeEmirates Big Race Series.

TOM ROA: TRUSTEE

TOM ROA is of Waikato–Maniapoto (Tainui) descent and is the Chair of the Maori Language Programmes in the school of Maori and Pacific Development at the University of Waikato.

Tom’s community involvement is extensive including holding positions as a Justice of the Peace, a Marriage Celebrant, Chair of Te Kauhanganui o Waikato (The Waikato-Tainui Parliament) and as a consultant on matters Maori for a number of organisations.

Tom is also a licensed interpreter with the Maori Language Commission.
