SKYCITY Auckland

SKYCITY and the local economy

Not only are our visitors who enjoy some good luck in our casinos rewarded, we also return substantial financial benefits to the community through the local, regional and national taxes we pay while making a significant contribution to tourism, New Zealand's largest industry.

SKYCITY is a big payer of taxes and levies

In the 2002 - 2003 financial year we paid $134 million in tax in New Zealand, and A$39 million in tax across the Tasman, comprising income tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, GST in both countries and regulatory and other levies.

Returns to shareholders

While the SKYCITY Entertainment Group and SKYCITY contribute to the country's economy, many New Zealanders also share directly in SKYCITY Entertainment Group's success through its listing as a public company on the New Zealand Stock Exchange.

We have approximately 21,000 shareholders, with around 58% being New Zealand residents.

Since 1996 the strength of our financial performance has enabled us to return NZ$460 million in dividends to our shareholders.

With the group’s net surplus after tax reaching a record high of $107.2 million, 2002/03 was SKYCITY’s sixth year of consecutive profit increase and earnings growth.

The strength of our performance has enabled us, between listing on the New Zealand Stock Exchange in February 1996 and 30 June 2003, to make a total annual return to our shareholders of an average of 26.0% per annum, compared with 6.6% for the NZSE40 Gross Index market measure.
