Mary Stammers-Smith: Chairperson
| MARY STAMERS-SMITH has recently retired as the sole Probation Officer in Queenstown, a position she had held for the last 18 years.
She was a founding member and first President of the Queenstown Citizens Advice Bureau, and a member of the management committee that established the Wakatipu Youth Trust. Mary also served on the panel of the Central Otago Grants Scheme for several terms. She was elected Chairperson of the Queenstown Lakes District Safer Community Council and held this position until the trust was closed down in 2005. Mary served as Chairperson of the St Margaret's College Endowment Fund for 30 years, relinquishing this role when the fund amalgamated with the St Margaret's Old Girls Association. She is a past member of both the Strengthening Families committee, and Wakatipu Interagency committee. As well as serving as a trustee on the Wakatipu Health Trust before retiring in 2005.
As a keen golfer, Mary has served on the Executive committee of the Arrowtown Golf Club. Mary believes her background knowledge and involvement in the local community, together with her desire to assist local groups promote their activities for the betterment of all, will stand her in good stead when considering applications for funding from the SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust. |
Jim Ryan: Trustee
| JIM RYAN is a founder of the popular chicken brand, Tau Tau, developing and expanding the business until its recent sale. He has served as a Director of the New Zealand Poultry Industry Association, the Southland Business Development Board, and Rugby Southland, in addition to being an inaugural trustee of a Southland community trust.
He was involved in southern community projects such as Telethon and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Invercargill. He was also Southland Business Personality of the Year in 1988.
As a long-time local ratepayer, and member of the Arrowtown Village Association, Jim takes a passionate interest in the preservation of the unique historic nature of Arrowtown and is a QLDC appointed member of the Arrowtown Planning Advisory Committee. Now also Chairman of the local group ArrowNet, he is enjoying seeing the more senior members of the community becoming more computer literate. |
VICKi BUCKHAM: Trustee
| VICKi BUCKHAM is an active member of the community and is involved with many diverse community groups including St Joseph’s Church, Historic Places Trust Queenstown-Lakes District Branch, Arrowtown Women’s Golf Club, Frankton Playcentre and the Lakes District Safer Community Trusts.
For the past 11-years, Vicki has been a Justice of Peace and was the Secretary Treasurer for the Justice of the Peace Central Otago Assn from 2004 until 2006.
Being a Trustee is exciting for Vicki as it provides an additional way of continuing to make a difference in the Queenstown-Lakes District community by supporting local groups in their endeavours. |
