SKYCITY Darwin Hosts Australian Jazz Legend

SKYCITY's Sunset Jazz Series is set to wow the crowds with Australia's foremost jazz legend James Morrison on Sunday, August 12 as part of SKYCITY's Season of Sunset and Stars

Australian jazz extraordinaire James Morrison is a household name, with his mesmerising and vibrant sounds of jazz. His brilliant quintet will enchant and captivate you into their musical world.

Morrison is a virtuoso in the true sense of the word. Besides the trumpet, this multi-instrumentalist also plays trombone, euphonium, flugel horn, tuba, saxophone and piano. He is considered one of the finest modern jazz musicians on the international circuit.

He has played with many of the great jazz legends, including Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson and Ray Charles. Entertaining audiences in the world's most famous jazz clubs from the Blue Note and Village Vanguard in New York to Ronnie Scott‘s in London, Morrison is also a regular performer with the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Andrew Wilson, SKYCITY Darwin General Manager, says SKYCITY is proud to be able to bring such talented jazz musicians to the Northern Territory.

“We are delighted to present one of Australia's most revered musicians beside the ocean on the lawns at SKYCITY Darwin. Jazz lovers will not be disappointed.
James Morrison consistently leaves his audiences spellbound, and the Sunset Jazz concerts are an excellent opportunity to get together with friends and family to enjoy great music in a beautiful tropical location."

Also delighting audiences on August 12 is Lily Dior - one of Australia‘s foremost jazz and soul singers. Since bursting onto the Sydney jazz scene in the early 90s, Dior and her band have been in demand for concerts at many of Australia’s leading jazz clubs and festivals.

Dior has performed with everyone from Dale Barlow to Mike Nock, Mark Isaacs to Victor Lewis, Bill Evans, D.I.G, The Mighty Reapers, The Whitlams, Banana, Alex Lloyd, as well as Kate Ceberano and Renee Geyer.

Singled out by legendary arranger Dave Matthews to perform with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet at their Australian debut in Sydney's Lyric Theatre, Dior also sang with US jazz great Mark Murphy while studying in New York.

Don't miss the incredible James Morrison Quintet and Lily Dior Quartet on Sunday, August 12, on the lawns at SKYCITY Darwin.
