SKYCITY AUCKLAND OPENS NEW BAR – THE LOBBY – AT THE GRAND HOTEL

Skyring's designs are modern and contemporary, whilst referencing hotel bars of old.

Tom Skyring said: “We wanted to create a space that would provide secluded meeting areas, whilst at the same time providing a fantastic space to entertain guests.

“Combining black leathers with tan and more muted hues, not only evokes a modern, sophisiticated look, but also highlights the incredible Karl Maughan paintings that deserve attention. The décor will inspire guests to relax in this urban retreat.”

Paul Huggins, SKYCITY Grand Hotel Manager, said: “At the SKYCITY Grand Hotel we always look to continue our theme of an oasis in the heart of the city. The Lobby is a welcome addition to our five-star facilities, expanding our range of options to entertain our guests.”

Inspired by the very best in New Zealand ingredients, The Lobby will serve a glamorous twist on national favourites such as Anzac biscuits and raspberry lamingtons. Seasonal flavours found in canapés and hand-crafted platters, created direct from Peter Gordon’s dine kitchen, will be matched with New Zealand wines in a bar that looks to create a lavish experience.

Dine-created dishes will include the irrepressibly popular Crispy twice cooked South Island pork belly on a salad of green papaya, Cos lettuce, peanuts, chilli, coriander and crispy shallots. Bellota’s deep-fried goat’s cheese fritters drizzled with Manuka honey and Macadamia nuts are a favourite at the Spanish tapas bar, and will delight guests equally at The Lobby.

The Lobby occupies a new space that combines both private and shared areas, outlined by sheer voile curtains and multi-level furniture to create an intimate feel. A combination of couches, ottomans and deep cavernous chairs allow for greater interaction, highlighted by individual two-tier tables that are neatly flood-lit. Tiered crystal chandelier lighting, sixties hooded lamps and a white marble-lit bar accentuate the dual purpose of the space, as the bar will be luxurious by both day and night.
