Crows & Power Captains on the same team!
Since 1991 only four men have Captained the Crows - McDermott, McGuinness, Bickley and Ricciuto and since the inception of
the Port Adelaide Football Club into the AFL only Wanganeen, Primus and Tredrea have donned the famous No 1 jumper.
Over many Showdowns these men have had only one thing on their mind - to beat the cross town rival team. Us against them.
The so called Chardonnays versus the warfies.
On 2nd August 2007 history will be made - the swords will be lowered and the ‘Seven’ will come together in the name of
charity. Together, they will be the ambassadors for The Captains Club, a newly formed coterie group inspired by the
McGuinness McDermott Foundation and all the funds raised by this group of leaders will be invested back into the Women’s
and Children’s Hospital and specifically the McGuinness McDermott Foundation Children’s Clinic.
The Captains Club invites business leaders and members of the community to join the States AFL leaders in a friendly,
positive atmosphere of social functions throughout the year to raise much needed funds for the Clinic. Keeping to the
sporting theme, the functions will be staged in conjunction with the major sports events of the year including the
Showdown, the Melbourne Cup, the Christmas race meeting and the Clipsal 500.
“The Captains Club offers its members a unique experience by joining ‘the team’ with some of our States greatest sporting
leaders” said MMF Executive Director Tony McGuinness.
The Captains are not just leaders on the field. All have had business experience and they are throwing their names, profile
and energy behind this Club to ensure its success.
“To get all boys together is a great coup for our Foundation and a great credit to them give back to the community in such
a positive and effective way” said MMF Director Chris McDermott.
The social home of The Captains Club will be Skycity Adelaide, a long term sponsor of the MMF. “SKYCITY has supported the
McGuinness McDermott Foundation for nine years now. We are delighted to support this unique initiative of the MMF and
jumped at the chance to join the Team” said SKYCITY Adelaide GM Kevin Brewer.
