SKYCITY's Oktoberfest

Fun and entertainment takes a cultural twist at SKYCITY Darwin next week, with our own little corner of Bavaria on the front lawns.  SKYCITYS Oktoberfest kicks off on Monday night with authentic food, bier and entertainment.

Our Marquee Bar is being transformed to resemble a traditional Bier Hall complete with typical benches and steins.  Dine on our traditional feast of Bavarian cuisine including Bretzels, Weisswurst, Sauerkraut and Pork hocks, then wash it down with a souvenir stein of the official “Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest Bier” on tap, served up by our authentically dressed Fräuleins.

In their first trip to Australia, SKYCITY Darwin has flown in an Oompah band, Blaskapelle Seefeld, direct from Germany to provide some shoe-slapping fun on the dance floor throughout the night.

Try out your strength and determination in the Strong Arm Bier Stein Competition.  Hold a 1 litre stein of bier for as long as you can.  If you’re the last man holding, you’re into the final on Sunday evening, 5th October.

SKYCITY’S Oktoberfest runs from Monday 29th September through to Sunday 5th October.  Open every night from 5.30pm, weekends from 2.30pm, entry is free.   Group packages are also available at $65pp, ticket price includes the Bavarian buffet, souvenir beer stein with a couple of refills, and a schnapps to finish.   Raise a stein and declare PROST! at SKYCITY Darwin.

Further information on the Oompah Band: BLASKAPELLE SEEFELD
http://www.blaskapelle-seefeld.de/

It was in spring of 1976 when the voluntary fire brigade of Seefeld took part in the spring festivities of a neighbouring village. After the festivities, a lot of live oompah music, dancing and of course a few beers, the firemen were on the way home when they had the idea to start up their very own Oompah Band.

Musicians from the area got together more and more regularly over the next few months until they established an incorporated society in January 1977. Their first “gig” was at the mayors’ 60th birthday in the summer of 1977.

In the following years there were a few ups and downs with change of musicians as well as organisational alterations. The band even had a fan club which was established in 1982 and has around 120 members today. The band got more and more established in the community as well as surrounding areas. Since then the Blaskapelle Seefeld travelled to and performed in different European countries and even in Chicago, USA!

The next highlight is of course their first trip to Australia! The band is very excited about flying half way around the world to perform at SKYCITY Darwin’s Oktoberfest from Monday, 29th September until Sunday, 5th October!
