SUCCESS FOR SKYCITY APPRENTICES AT NZ CULINARY FARE 2008
SKYCITY Auckland’s renowned hospitality apprenticeship programme continues to deliver results with a number of awards at the recent NZ Culinary Fare 2008.
Two SKYCITY apprentices won eight awards in as many categories including;
Kylie Lennon, a SKYCITY Auckland front of house apprentice, put on an exceptional display winning three awards in the following categories; Table Service, Café Beverages and Classic cocktail.
New Zealand Commis Chef of the Year 2008 was presented to Giann Ordonio. Currently working as an apprentice chef in the Terrace Restaurant, Giann has worked throughout SKYCITY and competed in the HSI Modern Apprentice of the Year competition. His win follows last year’s gold medal in the Junior live Salmon dish.
The accomplishments of senior SKYCITY staff members include;
Samantha Malekar, Zhi Qi Zhou, Lanjin Huang, Claudia Long and Cherng-Hann Ma won two silvers and three bronzes for their entries in the Chocolate Fantasy Dessert category respectively.
Following consistently good results in the dessert competitions, that included Jennifer Stevens’ gold for Live Main and Dessert, there were further awards in the mains sections, with our junior teams demonstrating great promise. Harley Martin’s gold in the Hot Main competition best illustrating this.
Mark Wylie, Executive Chef, said: “SKYCITY Auckland’s strong apprentice programme is gaining in strength and yielding considerable results. Recent wins at the NZ Culinary Fare, HSI Scholarship programme awards and the Torque d’Or show the depth of talent in our staff, and the quality of training at SKYCITY.”
