SKYCITY Grant Spells New Books for SPELD Manukau
The Manukau division of the Specific Learning Disabilities Federation – SPELD - have just been awarded a grant from the 2007 SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust funding round.
The $2,000 has been used to purchase a range of new fun and educational books and resources for those with learning disabilities.
Paula Tuke from SPELD Manukau says that the grant will help the organisation in its quest to help children who are not realising their educational potential because of various specific learning disabilities.
“Parents and SPELD tutors provide assistance to people of all ages with learning problems such as dyslexia.
“We are grateful that SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust has stepped up to help many kids in our local community that need extra assistance because they learn differently”.
SKYCITY Auckland Community Trust Chairman Jock Irvine says the Trust was pleased to be able to assist SPELD Manukau.
“We were delighted to give a grant to such a deserving community organisation. It was also a real honour to receive a letter from Connor Roberts, a child who uses the SPELD Manukau resources, saying the new books were ‘awesome’ ”.
