SKYCITY ATTRACTS INTERNATIONAL DAIRY SUMMIT TO AUCKLAND

The ‘World Dairy Summit’ is a 1000-delegate, multi-day event and is forecast to have more than $2.1 million economic impact to the Auckland region. For New Zealand, a key producer of dairy products, to be staging this event is considered a coup.

The International Dairy Federation, based in Belgium, is the pre-eminent source of scientific and technical expertise for all stakeholders of the dairy chain. Its membership covers 53 countries and accounts for 82 per cent of current total milk production worldwide.

Peter Zielke, Manager of Conventions and Out-catering at SKYCITY Auckland, said: “New Zealand is a world dairy leader and for the International Dairy Federation to hold their congress at SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre is a mark of New Zealand’s significant position on the world stage, and the excellence of our facilities. We worked with The Conference Company to win this event and as a bid partner they were critical to our success.

“This brings the total economic impact of events won by SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre and its conference partners, in the past year alone, to more than $10 million directly into the Auckland economy. It also underlines the very real demand and opportunity for further world class convention facilities in Auckland,” said Mr Zielke.

Andy Williams, of Fonterra Co-operative Group, said: “The Organising Committee is looking forward to working with SKYCITY in hosting this event and to make it the success we are sure it will be. The eyes of the dairy world will be on Auckland, New Zealand and we are confident we have the best centre to do that from.”

Notes to editors:

SKYCITY Auckland Convention Centre is situated directly beside the SKYCITY Grand Hotel – where conference delegates can take time out from their schedule to pamper their body, mind and spirit at the luxurious East Day Spa or refresh and tone at the gymnasium or in the heated 25-metre lap pool.  They can catch up with associates in the Club Lounge, or stay connected at the fully equipped, high-tech Business Centre.

The SKYCITY Auckland complex offers something to suite the tastes of all visiting conference delegates. They can spend their free time; dining at one of SKYCITY’s numerous restaurants and bars, taking a trip to the top of the Sky Tower for breathtaking views of the City of Sails, leaping off the Sky Tower at 85 km/hr with SkyJump or walking the external circumference of the Sky Tower suspended nearly 200 metres above ground with SkyWalk.
