Cassie — Café Junction Shift Supervisor
"When I moved from Queensland in 2001 I was looking for a change. I had worked in childcare before, so I started with limited food knowledge. "I've learnt a lot about the running of Café Junction, where I work. I know the procedures. I have better communication skills. You know, depending on how you talk to people, you can get a whole different result! "At SKYCITY there are plenty of opportunities to climb the ladder. That's why I started here. You earn respect through hard work and showing respect for colleagues. I've seen others make their way up and I'm getting there! I'm already training new staff. "Pretty much every day at work fills me with pride because there's a team enjoying themselves as well as working well."
Chokie — Gaming Machine Attendant
"My job, I love it so much … very much! I'm a hard worker, I know what I'm doing. And they notice. The people I work with are friendly and I look forward to going to work. Shift work? You get used to it. It's fine. "I've been here 16 years nearly. When I first started, I was a Bar Porter with Food & Beverage. I did that for seven years then I saw this job advertised internally and by then I wanted to do something different. Now I'm a Gaming Machine Attendant and I work on the second floor. "There's variety. Any day I might be fixing the machines, doing a hand payout, customer service …"

Craig — Table Games Inspector
"You feel like you're being listened to at SKYCITY. A while back we were asked for ideas about how to improve things on the floor. Already there are changes as a result. They take ideas on board, very much so. "I've been with SKYCITY Adelaide (and before that Adelaide Casino) since 1986. I started from the bottom as a Dealer and I've worked my way up to Inspector. The training opportunities are ongoing. "You treat people with courtesy and if you're polite and kind that's what you'll get in return. You smile, they'll smile back. There's a family atmosphere among most of the staff. They get on well. It makes the job itself a lot easier."
Leisl — Valet Attendant
"I was working in gaming when I saw an internal advertisement for Valet. And I thought 'That would be fun, being outside, driving the cars. Yeah, Ill definitely go for that.' I didn't see it as just for the guys. There are three other women valets. "It was a chance to do something different — get outside, drive the cars. It's good to be able to change roles within the organisation. "SKYCITY is team-oriented, and that's really good. What I find is that everyone is very friendly here. And supportive. People respect each other in general. They're encouraging with each other, really positive. There are a lot of people willing to give their time to help you do your job better."
